In our SUNDAY LUNCH collection, we explored the theme of Hungarian identity. As we designed the collection, our thoughts increasingly centered on food. Food is a central theme in countless Hungarian epic, lyrical, and dramatic works, such as those by Krúdy, Jókai, Kosztolányi, and Karinthy. Sometimes the balance between women and food tips in favor of the latter, as Krúdy put it: “The cult of eating often surpasses the significance of women and love.”
For this collection, we drew inspiration from our own lives, surroundings, and homes to design and illustrate the classics of Sunday lunch—lángos, porcelain, a peasant-style breakfast-turned-lunch, cookies, fish, our grandparents’ set of cutlery, checkered fabric, and Easter ham.
